Give a hoot about wildlife
This photo provided by the Taichung City Government shows a woman holding an injured owl she and others rescued from a mountainous area in the city. The woman was among a group of volunteers from Taiwan and other countries that was taking part in an activity to make owl nests when they spotted the injured bird stuck in a net.
 
Butane takes a tumble
A truck that was transporting butane gas was overturned during a trip on the Provincial Highway 1 on Wednesday.
 
You don't see this every day
An overturned car lies sideways in Da-an River in Miaoli County's quiet township of Tai-an. A wanted criminal surnamed Peng was found wet and nearly unconscious behind some bushes after his car overturned in the river, officers said on Thursday. Wanted for drug possession, he drove the vehicle into the river bank when being chased by police.
 
Burnin' rubber
Firefighters battle a fire at a recycling center in Miaoli City on Thursday, Feb. 16. The fire went on for 22 hours before it was finally put out on Thursday noon, sending a thick cloud of black smoke hanging over the city. Residents complained of the stench of burned plastic and rubber, while some complained of dizziness and of having been "poisoned."
 
Meet you in Miaoli
Performers put on a dragon dance in Miaoli City as fireworks go off on Thursday, Feb. 9. Traditional Hakka celebrations for the lantern festival kicked off Thursday and will last until Saturday. Traffic controls will be imposed in the main festival area. More information can be found on the Miaoli City Office website. Shuttle buses between the venue and Miaoli Station are also available.

Eight Thai women arrested for prostitution in Miaoli County
Police have arrested eight women from Thailand for being involved in the illegal sex trade in Miaoli County, but they are still trying to identify those who were responsible for the bringing the women into Taiwan.
