Malaysian man dies scaling Jade Mountain
A Malaysian man climbing Taiwan's highest peak, the 3,952-meter Jade Mountain, died Wednesday, possibly from hypothermia, Chiayi County Fire Bureau confirmed.

New bloom
Visitors walk on the Alley of Cherry Blossoms in the Alishan National Scenic Area on Wednesday, March 22. The Forest Bureau said Wednesday that the Alishan National Scenic Area had welcomed roughly 30,000 visitors in the past weekend as the cherry blossoms season started. There are more than 3,000 cherry trees of 30 types in the national park. Approximately 40 to 50 percent of trees of the most popular type -- Yoshino cherries -- have flowered, with this variety expected to peak by the Tomb Sweeping Festival on the first weekend of April.
 
Time for tea in Chiayi
After welcoming around 100,000 visitors in its maiden show last year, the International Tea Culture Exchange Exhibition (世界搏茶會) is on again in Chiayi County, running from March 18 to 27 in the west warehouses of Suantou Sugar Factory (蒜頭糖廠).
 
Chiayi Int'l Art Doc Film Festival kicks off
"This edition of the festival is by no means an old wine in a new bottle," filmmaker Huang Ming-chuan (黃明川) said from the outset. Huang is the art director and founder of upcoming Chiayi International Art Doc Film Festival (嘉義國際藝術紀錄影展), and his knowledge spans from classic modern films to contemporary art documentaries.
 
Police are investigating an explosion in the luggage compartment of a tour bus parked outside a temple in Puzi, Chiayi County on Sunday morning, as a result of which the driver's left hand was injured.
