Watch Tesla's Model X pass its first crash test with flying colors

Tesla has yet another reason to stake its claim as the carmaker of the future.

In a recent crash test conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the United States, Tesla's Model X SUV was awarded the highest possible rating of 5 stars in every possible category.

Since SUVs often to do poorly in crash tests, and perhaps also because of a fatal accident last year involving a Tesla model on autopilot, the company has been quick to spread the news.

In a blog post, Tesla attributes the Model X's excellent safety rating in its first-ever crash test to its solid frame and sturdy battery pack casing, which is installed in the floor of the vehicle.

And taking a look at the footage of the crash test, they seem to have a point. While the front of the car is flattened, the rest of the vehicle remains solidly intact. To check for yourself (or just to see crash test dummies bounce off airbags in slow motion) have a look at the video.
