Kinmen: A military battle ground turned idyllic tourist destinationDishan tunnel is another interesting man-made wonder of Kinmen. It was carved out of solid granite, turning it into a safe harbor route for supply boats that also doubled as an escape route during the war. The dimly lit interior of the tunnel has an eerie atmosphere that is heightened by the reflection of those granite rocks in the still water, so still that one may wonder that it’s actually a solid rocky cave, the water line getting obliterated in the dark. HOW TO GET THERE:
There are daily flights from Taipei. Price varies with airlines, usually between NT$1800 and NT$2300. Check the times before hand. In Kinmen, hire cars or motorbikes for traveling around. The hotels are very basic but clean and comfortable. Recently the local government has started “home stays” in traditional houses.
