Escape to Shanlinxi

About six hundred meters from the waterfall was the most amazing sight of the park, appropriately named as Tiandeyan or Eye of the Heaven. The trek was quite steep; you would find giant tree trunks, similar to that found in Alishan forest. The Eye of the Heaven was actually two huge holes in the mountains that gave the appearance and feeling of a pair of eyes — the all-encompassing, all-caring eyes of the Almighty.

The Ecological Herb and Flower Garden was located at halfway from the parking lot to the Qinglong waterfall. It had a wide variety of flowers and herbs. A beautiful windmill added a special touch to the whole surrounding which could easily be mistaken as some place else, other than Taiwan.

GETTING THERE:

The best way is to self drive. Take the Jhushan (竹山) Exit on the No.3 Expressway, connect to No 3 Provincial road and then turn to 151 provincial Road to Lugu. Drive towards Xitou and Shanlinxi is 17 kilometers from Xitou on the Xitou-Shanlinxi Road.

Unfortunately it is in Chinese, so you may need help in organizing a booking. The rates vary from NT$2,500 to NT$6,600. There are many restaurants inside the park, so food is no problem. The admission fee is NT$200 per adult, NT$100 per child.
