It will visit Shanghai, Wuhu in Anhui Province, Jinan in Shandong Province, Nanjing and Yangzhou before concluding the trip April 4, said Ling Chia-yuh, director general of the MOEA's Department of Investment Services. The MOEA has set a goal of attracting US$100 million in Chinese investment in Taiwan this year. Ling said the major strategy to meet the goal will be to visit leaders of large Chinese enterprises. The automobile industry will be the key sector targeted by the group on the trip, Ling said, expressing the hope that it will attract Chinese car makers to open assembly lines in Taiwan. He mentioned that one of their targets is the Shandong-based China National Heavy Duty Truck Group, the world's leading truck maker. Ling said that if the company were to assemble cars in Taiwan for export, Taiwan's auto makers could help it overcome environmental hurdles in the United States and also help it gain market share for its products there.
