Updated Monday, March 15, 2010 9:46 am TWN, CNA Taiwan promotes bicycle tours at Berlin travel fairThe booth was organized by the Taiwan Visitors Association, with around 10 hotels, travel agencies and airline companies highlighting itineraries on the theme of “bicycle touring around Taiwan.” In an effort to raise the visibility of the booth, a performance troupe from Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan staged an aboriginal dance and music performance during Thursday's event. Wang Tsung-shen, a Taiwan Tourism Bureau official, said he believes European people will love Taiwan if they visit, given its wealth of Oriental culture and its natural resources such as mountains and unique hot springs, as well as local delicacies and well-built bicycle paths. Despite the global recession, with concerted efforts by the Tourism Bureau and travel operators in Europe, nearly 8,000 German tourists visited Taiwan last year, according to Wang. He added that to persuade more European tourists to visit Taiwan during the 2010 Taipei International Flora Expo slated to take place in November, the Taipei city government also manned a stall at the Taiwan pavilion, distributing a wide range of tourist information materials and giving away free tickets to the Taiwanese film titled “Au Revoir, Taipei” — which won an award in Berlin earlier this year. ITB Berlin brought together a record high of 11,000 operators from 187 countries and drew big crowds from the industry, an indication that the travel and tourism industry is on a path toward gradual recovery, according to event organizers. The travel trade show, which is seen as an ideal platform for global travel industry exhibitors to meet negotiate and conduct business under one roof, will open to the general public March 13-14. It is expected to attract 170,000 visitors, the event organizers added. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%. Click here |
