Linkou housing to sell for more than promised

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The government has decided to build low-price apartments in Linkou Township in Taipei County, near one of the stations of the future airport link that passes through the area, said Lin Tsu-ling, Deputy Minister of the Interior, yesterday.

However, the apartments will be sold for NT$170,000 or NT$180,000 a ping, which is higher than the NT$150,000 that Premier Wu Den-yih promised earlier this year. Some properties in Linkou are sold for NT$110,000 a ping. One ping equals 3.3 square meters.

Responding to the public's doubts, Lin said prices vary by area.

“This location is particularly convenient, as it is serviced by various transportation systems,” Lin said.

The apartments will be built on a 226.78 hectare block of land near two major universities in the area. Besides residential apartments, this lot will also be used for industrial purposes, Lin said.

As for which industrial companies will enter the area, Lin said her ministry has to discuss the matter with the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
