Microsoft, Yahoo team up on search service

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Cabinet-level Fair Trade Commission (FTC) has approved a partnership between Microsoft and Yahoo to roll out better search engines, it said, yesterday.

Under the partnership, Yahoo will transfer its search engine technology to Microsoft, which will then integrate both companies' search engine and online ad platforms.

According to FTC, both companies will remain separate and competitive entities, an act that does not hinder fair trade.

However, both firms cannot collude to raise prices, and they must submit data on Taiwan's search engine market to FTC each year for three years, the agency said.
