VMAX unveils 4G WiMAX service

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- VMAX, a leading WiMAX solutions provider for northern Taiwan, recently unveiled its 4G WiMAX service, seeking to bring more convenience to mobile Internet users.

The launch was held Tuesday and was witnessed by Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin as well as representatives from VMAX's major shareholders, including Intel, Vibo and Teco.

According to VMAX, it wants to turn Taipei City into a major technology hub in the world, bringing complete and comprehensive mobile high-speed services targeted to different population groups. Various demos were held to show what the newest generation of WiMAX technology can do to enhance the mobile Internet experience.

For example, with the technology, taxi drivers can offer streaming of various online content on their cabs, allowing passengers to kill time while taking a ride. The technology is expected to bring more business to the city's cab drivers.

At the same time, with 4G WiMAX, reporters no longer need an SNG truck to do live reporting. They can transmit images or videos live from the scene via WiMAX back to the station, a delivery method that is more convenient, less onerous and less expensive.

“Nowadays, people need the Internet more than ever, and high-speed online access has become an indispensable technology for today's users,” said Liu Chao-kai, VMAX chairman. “Since we obtained a license for offering 4G WiMAX, we've set up an all-around WiMAX environment, using Taipei City as a starting point to test the waters. Thanks to support from our various partners, including Intel, Taipei is on its way to becoming a modish '4G WiMAX technology city.'”

Navin Shenoy, a high-ranking official of Intel, added that the high-tech guru will work with its partners to bring out more laptops and netbooks supporting WiMAX.
