The bureau has also commissioned British public relations and creative advertisement companies to design and put out 1,000 ads, which promote Taiwan as Asia's least known travel destination, in the London subway system weekly over the next six weeks. Taiwan-themed promotional anime will also be displayed on panels close to escalators in some very busy subway stations during that period. In addition, the Tourism Bureau will place promotional ads in mass-circulation publications, including The Sunday Times Travel Magazine, The Daily Telegraph Magazine and BBC Lonely Planet Magazine. In 2009, Britons made 44,815 visits to Taiwan, including 19,796 pleasure trips and 16,500 business visits. Taiwanese tourism officials stationed in London said they hope the promotional blitz will result in a significant increase in the number of British visitors to Taiwan this year.
