CPC completes 1st carbon reduction plan

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- CPC Corp., Taiwan's state-run refiner, has completed its first five-year carbon reduction effort, its supervisory agency, Ministry of the Economic Affairs (MOEA), said, yesterday.

CPC efforts have lowered carbon emissions by 1.08 million tons, an effect that would have been achieved by building 4,000 Daan Forest Parks. The figure was more than the 1 million tons CPC had originally hoped for.

CPC has now entered its second five-year effort, hoping to reduce 650,000 more tons of carbon dioxide by 2015.

The company has planted 63,000 trees by the end of November 2009 and donated 36,000 seedlings, MOEA said.
