CPC to shut fuel oil unit at Talin for maintenance

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- CPC Corp., Taiwan's state-owned oil company, plans to shut a fuel oil unit at its Talin refinery in the southern city of Kaohsiung for regular maintenance on Dec. 10, a company official said.

Stoppage of the No. 1 residue desulfurization unit, able to process 30,000 barrels of fuel a day, may last till Feb. 2, said the official, who asked not to be identified because he's not authorized to discuss closures with reporters.

CPC's three refineries — Kaohsiung and Talin in Kaohsiung and Taoyuan — have a combined processing capacity of 720,000 barrels of crude oil a day. Products from the fuel oil plant were used as raw material at a gasoline unit, the official said.
