Passengers get 90% off from CAL's mispricing

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Ten customers of China Airlines (CAL) will get their air tickets at a price of only 10 percent of the regular price after Taiwan's largest air carrier yesterday said it will honor the deals despite mispricing on its Web site.

CAL misquoted the single-trip ticket price from Kaohsiung to New York at just NT$2,600 by omitting a zero from the standard price of NT$26,000 on a price list for online transactions.

Executives of CAL said they will still honor the deals although the company stands to lose around NT$250,000 due to the misquotation error. But each of the ticket buyers will still have to pay a tax of NT$2,635 involving the transactions on their own, they said.

The executives said they already corrected the mistake in the price list and have conducted a probe to find out reasons behind the glitch. Consumers praised CAL for its decision to absorb the discrepancy in the price quotation.

They said the airline sets an example for other corporations that had backed off from deals after making similar misquotation errors arising from their own foul-ups.
