Trade council plans four fairs in China in 2010

Shanghai -- Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) will hold four trade fairs in China in 2010 to promote Taiwanese name brand products, Huang Wen-rong, deputy secretary of TAITRA, said Thursday.

The trade shows are expected to be held in China's Dongguan, Nanjing and two other as yet undecided cities, Huang said at the TAITRA-organized Taiwan pavilion at the Food and Hotel China (FHC) 2009 show that opened in Shanghai Wednesday.

To expand sales of Taiwanese goods in China, TAITRA plans to hold a large-scale trade exhibition in April 2010 in Dongguan, Guangdong province and another one in September 2010 in Nanjing, Jiangsu province. The venues for the other two are still being considered, with Chongqing in the southwestern province of Sichuan and Qingdao in the Bohai Bay being two of the possibilities,

Huang noted that Taiwan's participation in the Nanjing trade show this September was a great success as it attracted more than 260,000 visitors during the four-day exhibition. As a result, 340 of the 750 Taiwanese companies that took part in the fair have expressed great interest in joining large trade fairs in Nanjing and other parts of China, he added.

The government-backed trade promoter TAITRA has so far set up 10 footholds in China, and in view of the expanding business opportunities there, it is planning to establish others in areas with strong market potential, according to Huang.
