RFID is a generic term used to describe a system that transmits the identity -- in the form of a unique serial number -- of an object or person wirelessly, using radio waves. RFID is being increasingly used with biometric technologies for security purposes. Singaporean officials expressed initial willingness to consider the cooperation proposal and said they will discuss the issue with other relevant departments, the Taiwanese officials said. Meanwhile, in a separate press conference held by APEC finance ministers that same day, Lee was asked by foreign reporters to use one word or sentence to describe his thoughts. "We're a family, we must work together to make the APEC community more prosperous and harmonious," Lee responded. The summit meeting of the regional economic grouping is scheduled to take place in Singapore Nov. 14-15. Lien Chan, the ruling Kuomintang's honorary chairman, is attending as the envoy of President Ma Ying-jeou. Taiwan gained full APEC membership in 1991, making it one of the few major international organizations the country has been allowed to join. It is an important platform for Taiwan's engagement in economic and trade cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%. Click here |
