Share prices close higher on local bourse

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwan's share prices closed higher yesterday, with the weighted index, the market's key barometer, gaining 41.35 points, or 0.54 percent, to close at 7,649.28.

The local bourse opened at 7,651.64 and fluctuated between 7,671.91 and 7,614.75 during the day's trading session. A total of 3.94 billion shares changed hands on market turnover of NT$117.23 billion.

All eight major stock categories gained ground, with textile stocks moving up the most at 3.34 percent. Gainers outnumbered losers 1,527 to 1,027, with 217 stocks remaining unchanged.

Foreign institutional investors were net sellers of NT$3.42 billion in shares for the day.
