Updated Friday, July 3, 2009 10:53 am TWN, The China Post news staff and Bloomberg Flat-panel display prices to rise in July: WitsView“There's a glass shortage and it's also the traditional peak season for flat panels,” Chief Executive Officer Henry Wang said yesterday in an interview from Taipei. “I expect AU Optronics and Chi Mei to turn profitable in the third quarter.” AU Optronics Corp., the world's third largest maker of flat panels, gained 3.5 percent to NT$34.05 at the close on Taiwan's stock exchange, the highest since June 12. Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp. advanced 2.8 percent to NT$18.55, also the highest since June 12. The benchmark TAIEX index added 1.4 percent. Separately, prices of DDR3 memory chips may go up by five to 10 percent in July over June, due to high demand, said the Taipei-based DRAMeXchange. DDR3 is needed for the popular low-power CULV PC platform and is expected to account for 30 percent of total DRAM production by the year-end, the DRAM research firm said.
