TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A man residing in Lukang Township of the central county of Changhua was arrested yesterday for using a NT$200 voucher as gambling stake, immediately after receiving NT$3,600 in vouchers, according to the Lukang Police Precinct.

The gambler, surnamed Chen, was one of the five suspects nabbed by the police for publicly gambling on the roadside.

Meanwhile, the Hsihu Police Precinct, also in Changhua County, arrested a fugitive surnamed Huang when he showed up to receive the shopping vouchers.

Huang became wanted for failing to pay gambling fines of NT$3,000 to the court. He asked the police whether he can pay the fines with the vouchers he received. The answer was a definite “No.”

According to Changhua County Government, the county set up 811 voucher-distribution stations, and no major irregularities were reported yesterday.
