Updated Saturday, November 29, 2008 10:39 am TWN, CNA Consumer confidence reaches new low: RCTEDAll but one of the survey’s six sub-indices, which reflect consumers’ expectations of economic conditions over the next six months, declined from the previous month’s levels. The sharpest drop was in the category of “job opportunities,” which dived 10.1 points to 54.8, followed by “whether the next six months will be a good time to buy durable goods,” which dropped 3.6 points to reach 89.55. In the survey, a score of between 0-100 for a sub-index is classified as “pessimistic,” while a score of 100-200 is considered “optimistic,” according to the RCTED classification system. Also declining were the categories of “whether the next six months will be a good time to buy stocks,” down three points to stand at 45.7, “domestic economic conditions over the next six months,” down 1.25 points to 42.35, and “family economic conditions,” down 1.2 points to 42.9. The only sub-index that registered an increase was the category of “price levels,” which rose 5.85 points to reach 24.7, according to the survey. The survey was conducted by telephone among randomly selected adults aged 20 or older between Nov. 19-22, with a total of 2,189 valid samples collected.
