Foxconn to lay off 1,500 people in Hungary

BUDAPEST -- Taiwanese electronics company Foxconn announced Friday it would lay off a total 1,500 workers at its two Hungarian plants, the Hungarian news agency MTI reported. Foxconn Hungary will cut 1,000 jobs, or half of the workforce at its plants in Komarom, northwest of Budapest, and another 500 people out of 650 in Debrecen, southeast of the capital. The Taiwanese company’s Hungarian branch will move all manufacturing of electronic parts to Debrecen, where further lay-offs will depend on the economic environment, the chief of the Komarom plant, Peter Talos, said.
