Updated Saturday, November 29, 2008 9:31 am TWN, CNA CAL and EVA to resume flights to Thailand, EuropeTaiwan’s two largest carriers said their flights to Europe that normally transit through Bangkok will instead stop at Chiang Mai in northern Thailand or at Utapao Airport in Pattaya, while flights destined to Bangkok will land at Utapao Airport. Suvarnabhumi airport, one of Asia’s most important air transportation hubs, has been closed since Tuesday after being besieged by anti-government protesters. The closure has forced Taiwan’s carriers to suspend 20 daily round-trip flights destined to Bangkok or to Europe through the Thai capital. On Friday, over 600 Taiwanese travelers stranded in the Bangkok airport returned home after CAL and EVA Airways mobilized additional flights to pick them up from Utapao Airport, 140 kilometers away.
