However, Yeh Shih-wen, director-general of the Construction and Planning Administration under the Ministry of the Interior, said at the interpellation session that although Taiwan will have to observe WTO regulations, the issues of whether Taiwan should open its doors to Chinese contractors and how it should do so have never been finalized. “When we start planning in that direction, we will certainly consider the unemployment implications and make sure that the interests of Taiwan’s construction sector would not be compromised by the ingress of Chinese developers into the Taiwan market,” Yeh said.
