Huge response to job campaign

Under the program, more than 1,500 private enterprises have applied to hire jobless workers at its Bureau of Employment and Vocational Training offices around the country, which have begun arranging employment for job seekers, the CLA said.

The CLA announced the NT$3.7 billion (US$112 million) job creation program Oct. 22, designed to help at least 30,000 jobless people find employment and reduce the rising unemployment rate which hit 4.27 percent in September. The program will run until the end of June next year.

Companies taking part in the program will get a government subsidy of NT$10,000 per month for each unemployed worker who has been out of work for three or more consecutive months prior to being hired, for a maximum period of six months, the bureau explained.

The project is also designed in part to offer temporary jobs to people in need, CLA officials said.

The Chinese National Federation of Industries has made available 5,000 job opportunities in line with the project, and more private enterprises are expected to join the plan by the end of this year, the officials added.

The measure is aimed at helping to provide income to members of underprivileged families who have been unemployed for long periods, the officials went on, adding that public agencies are encouraged to provide short-term jobs, 7,000 of which are expected to be released in the areas of community service and social welfare activities.

These short-term jobs will include street cleaning and tour guide and community services, and the CLA will offer daily subsidies of NT$800 to each worker in these jobs for 22 days in each month during the period from November this year to April next year, they explained.
