Speaking at a forum on unemployment hosted by City Councilor Cho Ling-wen, Lee said the plan is aimed at tackling rising joblessness among the southern port city’s laborers. Lee said the proposal has been put forward in light of Mayor Chen Chu’s strong concerns about the laborer unemployment situation. Noting that a similar quota requirement for public contractors on the hiring of aboriginal and physically challenged laborers has been in place for several years and has had good results, Wu said his bureau will study and discuss expanding the requirement to include unemployed laborers.
