Malaysia Airlines to reduce fuel surcharge

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Malaysia Airlines has lowered fuel surcharges on tickets issued in Taiwan for point-to-point travel, the operator said. The reduction went into effect Oct. 1.

Malaysia Airlines Commercial Director, Dato Rashid Khan, said: “The fuel surcharge revisions were done on a route-by-route basis to ensure we remain competitive following a recent review of jet fuel prices.”

Malaysia Airlines will continue to monitor this closely for future revisions against jet fuel price movements, he said.

The earlier surcharge of US$247 one way for the Taiwan-France sector is now revised to US$140 and the rate for the Taipei-Los Angeles sector is revised from US$97 to US$78.

Other destinations which saw a drop in fuel surcharges include Taiwan to ASEAN, South Asia, Middle East, New Zealand, Africa, United Kingdom, Germany and South America.

According to Dato Rashid, collections from the fuel surcharges will still only give partial relief from the increased expenditure on jet fuel, which remain at historically high levels despite the recent correction.
