Taiwan airlines to cut fuel surcharges by 17%

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- China Airlines, EVA Airways Corp. and Taiwan’s other airlines will cut fuel surcharges by as much as 17 percent as jet kerosene prices fall. Levies on long-haul flights including Australia and New Zealand will be reduced by US$13 per passenger to US$65 and surcharges on short-haul trips will drop US$5 to US$25, Taiwan’s Civil Aeronautics Administration said in a statement on its Web site yesterday.

The changes will take effect Oct. 10, the statement said. The price of jet kerosene has fallen 39 percent since hitting a record US$181.85 a barrel on June 3. It traded at US$110.75 Tuesday in Singapore.
