Updated Tuesday, March 18, 2008 0:00 am TWN, The China Post news staff Hsieh continues attack on Ma for ‘green card’He demanded yesterday that Ma produce the passports he and his wife carried before 1990 as proof of their loss of the right to permanent residence in the United States. Ma claimed on January 28 he could not locate the passports where U.S. non-immigration visas were stamped, Hsieh told the press. “More than 40 days have passed,” Hsieh went on, adding: “He should have been able to find the passports.” Hsieh attacked Ma for holding the valid “green card” when he started working for President Chiang Ching-kuo on return from the United States. That’s cheating, Hsieh said. If tourist visas were found on the passports, Ma and his wife could prove that their right of abode in the United States had been lost. Green card holders are forbidden to obtain non-immigration visas. In particular, Hsieh said he was referring to the right of abode when he talked about the green card. “A green card can be cut in half today and become invalid at once,” Hsieh said. “Not so is the right to permanent residence,” he added. That may be why Ma claimed his green card is invalid, Hsieh said. “But he still is a permanent resident of the United States,” he pointed out. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%. Click here |
