Council of Indigenous Peoples recruits tribal language experts

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Council of Indigenous Peoples have begun to accept applications from Atayal, Paiwan, Rukai, Seediq and Truku peoples who are experts of their respective native languages to become surveyors that investigates the vitality of their tribal tongues.

The application period began on March. 20 and will end on April 17, seeking to recruit 65 language experts from the five tribes. Following orientation and training, the language experts will begin conducting investigations toward the vitality of their native tongues between June and October this year.

The results of the surveys will enable the council to get a better grasp on the level of understanding and the usage frequency of the 16 indigenous tongues, which will also serve as important data for future indigenous language policies.
