TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) held a press conference recently to show its appreciation to five non-governmental associations that donated four social service cars to provide community services to elderly citizens in rural areas.
The five associations include Yi Rung Feng social welfare foundation (財團法人義榮豐社會福利基金會), Pxmart Pei Hua dream community foundation (財團法人全聯佩樺圓夢社會福利基金會), Pxmart Ching Hsiang charity foundation (全聯慶祥慈善事業基金會), CTBC Charity Foundation (中國信託慈善基金會) and Taipei Jen Chi (台北仁濟院).
The MOHW pointed out that most elderly citizens who live in the countryside are limited in their mobility by public transportation, or lack thereof, which reduces their willingness for using community services. The mobile service cars can pick these people up and take them to community centers where it will be easier and more convenient for them to contact social services and get the help they need.
In addition, MOHW also hopes that this charitable act will bring this issue to the attention of more people and spur participation in similar projects in the future.
