Spurred on by student, Taipei taxi drivers deliver a message to Lucy

With the movie "Lucy" causing a huge craze in Taiwan and droves assembling at movie theaters, Tony Hsu (許東華), a student who recently graduated from The Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University (師大附中), made a video responding to the scene in which Lucy shoots a Taiwanese taxi driver because he cannot speak English.

The YouTube clip "A message delivered by Taxi Drivers," shows taxi drivers holding a sign saying "Lucy, don't kill me." Some of them state that they can speak English and plead Lucy not to shoot them while some others tell Lucy "welcome to Taiwan" in the video.

There are also some taxi drivers who cannot speak English in the video, expressing their ideas to Lucy in Taiwanese. One said that Taiwan is a country regulated by law and people don't just kill others like that.

Hsu said that he was first inspired to do this clip while watching the trailer for "Lucy." He felt it was unfair that she kills the taxi driver without a good reason. He then started to think about a project to speak for local taxi drivers.

"We speak English when we are traveling abroad, therefore, I feel that Lucy should speak Chinese when she is in Taiwan," said Hsu.

"I hope that Luc Besson can see this clip," continued Hsu while laughing.

To make this clip, Hsu stopped several taxis on the street and asked drivers if they were willing to help. Although many refused, he managed to find many taxi drivers willing to help with his project.

"I met many shy taxi drivers who feel uncomfortable in front of a camera. However, after talking to them like friends, they are actually quite willing to share their ideas," added Hsu.
