Taiwan on top in Junior League World Series

TAIPEI -- Taiwan won the 2014 Junior League World Series championship in Taylor, Michigan on Saturday local time, beating a Texas U.S. baseball team 9 to 1.

The series, held Aug. 9 to Aug. 15, brought together eight teams and Taiwan, which took part under the name Chinese Taipei, winning first place in the International Poll with five wins and no losses.

Taipei played against the team from Texas, which won first place in the U.S. Pool in the final on Saturday.

Gu Lin Ruei-yang, the starting pitcher for the Taiwan team, gave up only four hits and one run during the first six innings. The team is made up of players from Chung-Shan Junior High School in Taichung.

Ruei-yang was replaced by Lin Yen-an, who allowed Texas only one hit and no runs.

Taiwan had 15 hits during the game and led Texas 6 to 1 after five innings, later adding another three runs.

This was Taiwan's second championship in a row and 20th since 1972 at the Junior League World Series.
