TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Two women were strangled to death over romantic entanglements yesterday, according to authorities, with one homicide taking place in Chiayi (嘉義) and the other in Taichung (台中).
An 18-year-old woman, surnamed Cheng, was murdered by her 20-year-old ex-boyfriend, surnamed Chiang, yesterday in Chiayi. According to the police, Cheng kept in touch with Chiang after they ended their relationship one and a half years ago. The police said that Chiang went to Cheng's residence to talk and found evidence indicating that she was involved in a new relationship. The revelation sent him into a rage resulting in an intense quarrel, ending in the young woman's death. After committing the crime, Chiang went to the police and confessed. The police went to the scene right away, but Cheng showed no vital signs.
Cheng's teacher said that she was a well behaved girl and had good grades in school. All her classmates and teachers are saddened by her loss and the school will arrange counseling sessions for affected students.
A similar crime took place yesterday in Taichung.
A 23-year-old woman, surnamed Chien, didn't show up at work yesterday so her colleagues called her family. Chien's mother went to her residence and found her unconscious in the kitchen with bruises on her neck. She wasn't breathing and showed no heartbeat. Chien was later declared dead at a hospital.
