TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) yesterday announced that its Kaohsiung branch office will be relocated in the southern port city tomorrow.
In a released statement, the AIT said its Kaohsiung office will relocate to the new China Steel Building this Friday.
The major relocation project demonstrates the continuing deep commitment of the United States to Southern Taiwan, the AIT said.
The new office address will be 5F, No. 88, Chenggong 2nd Road, Cianjhen District, at Kaohsiung City with the closest Kaohsiung MRT station being the Shihjia Station. The new telephone number will be (07) 335-5006, it added.
To celebrate the new office, AIT Director Christopher Marut will preside over the opening ceremony this Friday.
In preparation for the move, the office's normal consular services have been closed since yesterday and will resume at the new office starting on Aug. 15, the AIT said.
In 1979, the AIT's Kaohsiung branch was established to promote U.S. commercial, cultural and people-to-people ties with residents of southern Taiwan.
The office has been in its current location at Chung Cheng 3rd Road since 1986 and since then its staff has doubled in size.
In order to meet its expanded requirements and ensure that the office is positioned to maintain vibrant ties throughout Southern Taiwan, AIT Kaohsiung will move into the China Steel Building, an architectural showpiece that has already become a prominent part of Kaohsiung's skyline, it noted.
The office looks forward to continuing its productive relationship with the city of Kaohsiung, as well as the other municipalities in its district, which include Chiayi City and County, Tainan City, Pingtung County, Taitung County and Penghu County.
