TRA malfunction delays 1,200 passengers in East

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) yesterday said that a malfunction was reported at noon at Fenglin Station in Hualien, delaying passengers for 30 to 40 minutes, the second such incident in less than 24 hours.

Tim Wu (吳金添), deputy section chief of the Hualien Transportation Division of the TRA, reportedly said that a local train, number 4628, had ceased to function.

Number 4628 was on its way to Yuli, Hualien, according to the TRA, when the railway cables suddenly failed.

Immediately after the incident, TRA officials in Hualien reportedly sent engineering personnel to repair the damage and completed the job at 3 p.m.

The malfunction of wires had reportedly affected around eight different train schedules and 1,200 passengers with a total of 270 delayed minutes.

The TRA publicly apologized for the inconvenience caused by the delay and stated that passengers would get proper refunds at any station within a year.
