TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Semiconductor assembly, packaging and testing company Powertech Technology Inc. (力成) yesterday held an earnings conference, announcing a second quarter net income of NT$898 million, up 50.4 percent quarter-on-quarter, and revenues of NT$10.58 billion.
In the second quarter, the company saw consolidated profit margins improve 3.8 percent quarter-on-quarter to reach 17.9 percent.
Over the first half of this year, the company accumulated revenues of NT$19.807 billion, up by 6.1 percent year-on-year, and a net income of NT$1.496 billion, up by 14 percent year-on-year. Over the period, the company's earnings-per-share performance was rated at NT$1.96, improving vastly over the NT$0.92 recorded during the same period last year.
In the second quarter, revenues derived from DRAM memory module testing rose by 2 percent quarter-on-quarter to reach 36 percent, while sales derived from Flash memory and logic integrated circuit testing both declined by 1 percent, reaching 35 percent and 29 percent of overall sales respectively.
Powertech Chairman Tsai Tu-kung (蔡篤恭) stated that with the company's operating results in the second quarter besting previous forecasts by a small margin, the company's operations are on-track for further growth momentum. Further improvements are expected in the third quarter, with profit margins anticipated to hold at second-quarter levels, said Tsai. Overall performance this year may return to similar results as seen in 2011, said Tsai, who also indicated an upbeat outlook on DRAM testing, and high-end logic IC assembly.
