Camp to boost youth interest in int'l affairs: Foreign Ministry

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) is expected to hold a summer camp to expand Taiwanese youths' interest in international affairs and the development of nongovernment organizations (NGO) on Aug. 13, adding that the courses and lectures will be given in all-English environment.

The decision to add English standard as selection criteria is a new policy, said Ray Mou (牟華瑋), director-general of the Department of NGO International Affairs of MOFA.

An applicant must meet certain criteria for the summer camp. His or her TOEFL iBT score should be higher than 90, 850 or above in TOEIC or have passed the High Intermediate Level of General English Proficiency Test (GEPT), according to Mou.

People aged 18 to 35 with the above-mentioned qualified English certificates as well as interests in international affairs can apply for enrollment in this all-English program before July 31, he added.

Thirty-five people will be selected to enter the intensive 100-hour-long courses, and the organizer is expected to invite prestigious scholars and local NGOs to serve as lecturers at the camp.
