Jeremy Lin to arrive in Taiwan for visit

TAIPEI -- Jeremy Lin, the first NBA player of Taiwanese descent, is slated to start a week-long visit to Taiwan today, amid great public interest in his recent transfer to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The 25-year-old point guard's 8 p.m. flight from Shenzhen, China, to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport was delayed yesterday due to Typhoon Rammasun. Fans of the NBA star were still waiting at the airport as of press time.

Lin's trip to Taiwan has already been delayed by one day because he had to sign a new contract earlier in the week after the Lakers acquired him from the Houston Rockets.

In Taiwan, Lin will attend two promotional events hosted by Adidas, his new sponsor this year, and several charity events.

The sports brand has launched a limited edition of Jeremy Lin sneakers ahead of his trip and is offering tickets for fans to meet him.

Lin's packed schedule includes an Adidas press conference July 18, followed by a youth basketball camp July 19 and 20 with guest coach Steve Novak of the Toronto Raptors.

Lin and Novak played for the New York Knicks in the spring of 2012, when Lin shot to fame in a phenomenon dubbed "Linsanity".

On July 23, Lin is scheduled to participate in the recording of a program for GOOD TV, a local Christian TV channel, and he has more Adidas events on July 23.

In the period July 19-21, he is also expected to attend charity events whenever he can find the time. The activities include another basketball camp on July 20, sponsored by China Airlines, for aboriginal children.
