Andrew Kao takes over as deputy minister of MOFA

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said on Monday that Deputy Minister Ting Joseph Shin (石定) will be leaving his post to head the nation's de facto embassy in South Korea, while former Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York director Andrew Kao (高振群) took over as deputy foreign minister effective Tuesday.

Following Kao's official appointment, the work responsibilities of the position are to be adjusted slightly, differing from the duties of the other two deputy ministers, said MOFA. With his background, Kao will mainly focus on issues concerning the United States, as well as East Asian and Pacific affairs. Kao will also take over responsibility for legal affairs and international treaties since he previously served as director-general of the Department of Legal Affairs and International Treaties at MOFA.
