Northern Taiwan sees heavy sporadic rainfall

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Central Weather Bureau (中央氣象局, CWB) yesterday reported that as a result of active convection development, the accumulated rainfall in Sanxia District in New Taipei has accumulated up to 86 millimeters, reaching heavy level in 24 hours.

Taipei, New Taipei and Taoyuan have also been warned of high chances of heavy sporadic shower and downpour, with areas around Yilan and Hualien reported with high chances of downpours. The CWB has also alerted the general public of sudden downpours, thunder showers and strong gusts in the central and mountain areas.

Weather Forecast Center director Cheng Ming-dean (鄭明典) advised the general public, citing the obvious frontal cloud close to the northern area of Taiwan through satellite imaging. Though the frontal clouds are still far from Taiwan, the type of front observed is unusual for the season, which is the reason of the active convection Cheng said.

Weather Likely Hot with Rain for the Next Few Days

According to the CWB, the weather today is likely clear and heated, and could be accompanied by short thundershowers in the afternoon. The entire island has been estimated to have an average low temperature between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius, and an average high between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius. The CWB has advised the general public to conduct proper heat and rain protection when outdoors.

The forecast in the days following will likely follow the same pattern today, with high heat accompanied by temporal thundershowers in the afternoons. Showers will be more frequent starting on the 18 the forecast predicted, with temperatures remaining high throughout.

In related news, typhoon Rammasun continues to move west on the Pacific reported the CWB, and has been estimated to pass thorough the Filipino islands tomorrow. Though the typhoon is very unlikely to land on Taiwan, alerts have been issued to fishing boats conducting work on the pacific. The typhoon will also likely cause thundershowers to certain parts of Taiwan CWB reported.
