KMT's national congress set for Sept. 14 in Chiayi

TAIPEI -- The ruling Kuomintang (KMT) announced Monday that it will hold its annual national congress on Sept. 14 in Chiayi.

The KMT will use the opportunity to drum up support for its nominees for the Nov. 29 elections for city and county government chiefs and representative assemblies, according to Su Jun-pin, head of the KMT's Organizational Development Committee.

During the congress, the KMT is also expected to retroactively confirm the appointments of Vice President Wu Den-yih, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin, New Taipei Mayor Eric Liluan Chu and Taichung Mayor Jason Hu as the party's vice chairmen.

The KMT's national congress, which was previously held every two years, has become an annual event following a party charter amendment adopted during the last congress held in November 2013.
