Japanese man indicted for allegedly attacking police

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Japanese man has been indicted by Taiwanese prosecutors on charges of obstruction of justice after he allegedly attacked police officers in Taipei last month.

The 40-year-old man, identified by his family name Matsumoto, was hitting random moving cars with his hands and creating a racket near a department store on the city's Nanjing West Road on June 17, prosecutors said.

He later pushed and beat police officers who arrived on the scene after receiving a report about his behavior, prosecutors said.

Following his arrest, the man told police he was a secret agent dispatched by Tokyo on a special mission to Taiwan, according to prosecutors.
