Chiayi firm faces fine over illegally hiring foreigners

An environmental technology company in Chiayi County's Jiatai Industrial Park (嘉太工業區) is facing a fine of up to NT$1 million for hiring eight Vietnamese workers illegally, according the National Immigration Agency (NIA).

According to the NIA's Chiayi County Brigade (嘉義縣專勤隊), fingerprint comparisons showed that two of the eight are runaway workers. The remaining six are workers legally employed at a company based in Minsyong Industrial Park (民雄工業區), but were find working illegally for the Jiatai Industrial Park-based company.

Investigators said that the owners of the two companies are husband and wife, and that the company in Jiatai Industrial Park is not qualified to employ foreign workers; therefore, the owner of the Jiatai Industrial Park-based company used foreign workers from her husband's company to reduce personnel costs.

Shouldn't both companies be fined as they acted together in allowing foreign nationals to work illegally? I doubt very much the workers decided to swap factories by themselves and it was forced upon them by the owners.
