TAIPEI--Heavy rainfall is expected across Taiwan Tuesday afternoon, and the inclement weather could continue until Thursday, the Central Weather Bureau cautioned.
Thunderstorms, downpours and strong winds are likely to result from warm, humid seasonal winds and a weather front lingering over Taiwan, the bureau said.
Northern Taiwan experienced torrential rainfall on Monday, with Shiding District in New Taipei accumulating 264 millimeters of rain in 24 hours, the highest of any location in the region, according to forecasters.
The Feitsui Reservoir, which supplies water to the greater Taipei area, was nearly full thanks to the sudden rain and had to release some of its water late Monday.
Temperature-wise, highs could range between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius island-wide on Tuesday while lows should be around 26 or 27 degrees, the bureau said.
The rainy pattern might ease up starting Thursday, giving way to much warmer and more stable weather until next Monday, according to the bureau's forecast.
