TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Police in New Taipei on June 12 arrested a suspect after he allegedly set up several Facebook fan pages dedicated to a man who carried out a deadly subway train stabbing spree, the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB, 刑事局) said.
The suspect, surnamed Yen (閻), has been identified as a college student. He was arrested during a raid by the police in New Taipei City, the CIB said.
On May 21, 21-year-old Cheng Chieh (鄭捷) attacked passengers on a Taipei Metro train traveling from Longshan Temple Station to Jiangzicui Station. Four people were killed and 24 injured in the killing spree.
In the wake of the tragedy, Yen began a Facebook group titled "Cheng Chieh fans group" on May 21, just hours after the deadly attack.
The page was later pulled down after Web users alerted Facebook to its content but Yen put a further two pages up on the social networking site.
The CIB said Yen was arrested for allegedly spreading intimidating information and endangering public security.
