TAIPEI--Four five-star hotels in eastern Taiwan have decided to form an alliance to jointly promote tourism in the region ahead of the opening of a completely electrified rail line in the region that will reduce travel times.
Silks Place Taroko and the Promisedland Resort in Hualien County and the Papago International Resort and Hotel Royal Chihpen will form the Hualien Taitung Fivestar Alliance on June 16 with the launch of several promotional campaigns, the group said.
Starting from July 1, passengers can take the Taiwan Railways Administration's fastest train, the Puyuma Express, all the way to Taitung County, after the electrified railway between Taitung and Hualien to the north goes into operation.
At present, travelers taking the train from Taipei to Taitung have to change from electric to diesel-powered trains in Hualien before heading further south.
