TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A group of teenage domestic violence and sexual abuse victims showcased Saturday a canoe that they built for a voyage around Taiwan next month.
The 10 girls spent five months completing the 540-cm-long boat, named “Dream,” according to the City People Foundation, a halfway home in Tamsui, New Taipei that is organizing the event.
In July, the girls will embark on a two-month voyage around Taiwan aboard canoes, a move aimed at restoring their courage and self-confidence, the foundation said.
They will be accompanied by a coach to keep them safe, it added.
The upcoming activity will be an expansion of a similar one held last summer, when 12 abuse victims spent one week canoeing around Green Island, an islet off the eastern county of Taitung.
