CDC reports nation's 15th measles case of this year

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on Saturday reported the 15th case of measles in Taiwan this year, the 13th imported case thus far.

The CDC cautioned travelers to high-risk areas to mind personal hygiene after the latest infection, a 38-year-old Taiwanese man who returned from China on May 16 with the condition.

No one of the 194 people who have been in contact with the man have developed measles symptoms, the CDC said, adding that it will continue monitoring those individuals until June 11.

The agency called for alert amid higher instance of measles infections in neighboring countries than in previous years.

China, for instance, reported 25,114 measles cases during the first four months of 2014 — a 92.9 percent increase from last year.
