Taoyuan to conduct renewed call for bids over Bade housing project

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taoyuan Magistrate Wu Chih-yang (吳志揚) said yesterday that the Taoyuan County Government will conduct a renewed call for bids over the affordable housing project in Bade Township.

Taoyuan recently nullified its contract with Farglory Group to have a residential complex built in the aforementioned township in response to allegations that Farglory Group Chairman Chao Teng-hsiung (趙藤雄) bribed former Taoyuan Deputy Magistrate Yeh Shih-wen (葉世文) to secure the tender. According to the prosecution, Tsai Jen-hui (蔡仁惠), a retired professor, has admitted to acting as an intermediary between Chao and Yeh, who was recently relieved of his post as deputy magistrate after news of the accusations broke.

All three suspects are currently being held incommunicado.

Other affordable housing projects in Taoyuan will be changed into social residential housing projects, Wu said. The difference between the two is that affordable housing units are mainly for sale, while social residential housing units are for lease only.

Wu also said that available housing units for lease in the planned Bade complex will be increased to 40 percent in response to public demand.

Affordable housing projects near Taoyuan International Airport MRT stations A10, A20 and A21 as well as the affordable housing project in Zhonglu Subdistrict (中路區) will be changed into social residential housing projects, the magistrate added.
