TAIPEI -- Instead of reading books or blog posts, Taiwanese now can learn more about fashion information and make-up skills through a video platform launched Wednesday by YouTube, Google Inc.'s video-sharing website.
The “All About Beauty” channel allows people to watch make-up tutorials and videos about fashion information uploaded by local beauty bloggers, make-up professionals and dermatologists.
Other YouTube users can also apply to join the beauty channel and share their make-up ideas by uploading their own videos, or even earn money from advertisements embedded in the videos they upload to the platform, according to Google Taiwan.
The Chinese-language beauty channel, which will be operated by French cosmetics giant L'Oreal, aims to offer Taiwanese access to well-managed beauty information, said Stanley Chen, general manager of Google Taiwan.
“Through such a video channel, we think that Taiwan's fashion industry is likely to move toward a new era of sharing ideas more efficiently,” Chen said at a press conference.
“We are also expecting another Michelle Phan to come out of Taiwan,” Chen said, referring to a Vietnamese American make-up demonstrator and entrepreneur who has become a celebrity on the video-sharing website.
Phan's videos have more than 6.4 million subscribers and have had nearly 1 billion views. She teamed up with L'Oreal in August 2013 to launch a new make-up line designed by herself.
